I just recently found ABCya! Kids Educational Computer Games &amp; Activities, which is another site that provides math and language arts games for free, but for more grade levels than Starfall.com. Featuring free printable mini-books, you can search their selection by grade level and subject.

A quick search of 1st Grade Social Studies brought back mini-books about Washington, D.C., firefighters, and learning about your neighborhood. What a fantastic resource! My son is in a K-1 class this year and when they have computer lab day the teacher puts them all on Starfall.

Today's high temperature was 91. It is utterly amazing how different the weather has been this year. Happy Veteran's Day today! Thank you to all veterans and their families for the sacrifices made for our freedom. Both of my grandfathers were veterans, and I have some friends in the military right now as well. They are at the forefront of my thoughts and prayers today.

We haven't really done the whole costume thing with our kids for Halloween. S never liked costumes before now, and A was really small still. I was on the computer looking up halloween costumes to try and get some ideas for them (they've been invited to a halloween party), and I suddenly noticed it had gotten way too quiet.

I went into my bathroom to find them putting my makeup on each other! Mostly lipstick. On their eyebrows. LOL

He is coughing and congested, and was running a fever. I have been trying to think of a way to display the art pieces my son has made at preschool, but wasn't sure what to do beyond putting it on the fridge. I came up with this solution: hang it in his room. I got some string from hubby's garage and two nails, and strung the string across the wall above S's closet. I am quite pleased with the results! I LOVE the fabrics I used, and just need to make a little bag for it so I can keep it in my purse for all of those times when I have too much to carry (which is quite often), or when I just need a shopping bag.

Just this evening, she pointed at the open window and said, "I hewd da dockie bawking! Woof woof woof!"

And when we were driving in the car past some horses not too long ago, she said, "Mommy, I see ho-sies!"

And the kids are already poring over the toy catalogs. I think we have been receiving 3-4 a week ever since the end of October. I can't seem to get them in the recycle bin fast enough, because the kids seem to think that they NEED to look at all catalogs that come into our house. Well, we only had two days of soccer, so I probably would not be considered a soccer mom just yet. LOL

We put S into an "Itty Bitty Sports" league this fall, so for 4 weeks he gets to go spend an hour once a week playing soccer, basketball, and tee-ball with other 3-year-olds. He is surprisingly good at soccer, when he can stay focused on what he's doing. I've been reading a lot more and watching TV a lot less lately, and I got this crazy idea to make a list of all of the books I've read so far this year. I'm still working on it, and I cannot believe how much I've actually read so far! I just sat down and added up the number of pages in the books on my list and it came out to 19,833!!! I should be able to surpass 20,000 by the end of the year!

During July, we took a trip to Twin Lakes, outside of Bridgeport, CA. We stayed at Twin Lakes Resort on Lower Twin Lake for two weeks. The resort was in a beautiful setting, with a glorious view of the mountains and very close to the lake. We had full hookups for our trailer, with decent-sized campsites close to the laundry room and showers. I wasn't sure what to expect from my kiddoes, but they did wonderfully. The water was smooth as glass, and we had a great time watching my dad, brother, and father-in-law ski, wakeboard, and "surf" behind the boat. I got some great pictures too. He started going to preschool one day a week at a local church in April. He really likes it. We took my mom and MIL with us--it was nice to have another set of adults to help with the kiddoes. 

We left on Tuesday morning, got out a little later than we wanted, hit traffic, and ended up getting into Disneyland at lunchtime. The day was unseasonably warm--it ended up being 80 degrees and we were all sweating in our long pants...
